On May 12, 1953, a small group of trailblazing women found themselves seated at a table with one another in the sleepy City of Shreveport. These women were unceremoniously breaking new ground in the State of Louisiana, becoming the First Republican Women’s Club in the state. It seemed like an innocuous gathering of ladies enjoying conversation and a meal, but nothing is ever what it seems. This gathering is one that has been repeated every month for the last 63 years, leading the group, who are known as the Women’s Republican Club of Shreveport, or WRC Shreveport, to become a political force locally and throughout the state. The Women’s Republican Club of Shreveport has given women’s strong political voice from our beginning. Since May 12, 1953, we have met monthly without interruption. With our strong voices and political prowess, we have influenced elections while maintaining our integrity and focusing on what makes the United States of America great. WRC Shreveport is also dedicated to fostering the development of young, Conservative women. This is why we offer a scholarship for a college-aged woman every year.
