About Us

Ascension Republican Women (ARW) was chartered in January of 2003 with ten members. During her tenure as Central Region Vice-President, Nancy Fatta fostered the chartering of ARW. For the first two years, ARW maintained the basic provisions of our charter by meeting occasionally and paying LFRW/NFRW dues to maintain our active status.  Our small membership was, however, largely involved in the campaigns of 2003 and 2004. In January of 2005, immediately following two major campaign years, we began in earnest by meeting monthly, planning events, attending LFRW conferences and have continued to do so to the present. Our chapter had a major presence in the 2009 LFRW 28th Biennial Convention that was held in Baton Rouge and two of our officers, Joyce LaCour and Beverly Weselak, served on committees for the 2011 LFRW 29th Biennial Convention in Monroe. ARW has been host for Region 6 events such as the luncheon with the First Lady, Supriya Jindal, in September of 2011. In April of 2012, we held an “Evening at the Governor’s Mansion” fundraiser to raise money for our Dictionary Project. From the beginning, we have welcomed members of the community and other Republican organizations to our meetings. We strive for excellent speakers and timely, issue-oriented topics.  One of the directives of our by-laws is to increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government and another is to promote and inform the public through political education and activity.  We, therefore, consider it germane to our mission to continue this practice. Ascension Republican Women sponsors the Ascension GOP Roundtable, which serves as our monthly meeting and provides a strong “Republican Footprint” to the community at large. Many of our members are experienced campaign volunteers, especially in “Get Out The Vote” (GOTV) efforts.  In addition, our members closely follow and take action on national and state legislation. As we embark on a new decade, we have grown and are continuing to grow.  ARW membership includes several couples (husbands joining as Associates), who regularly attend meetings and events together.  We have established a solid groundwork and will continue to build and add new areas of endeavor to our repertoire.

Growth & Goals

Ascension is one of the fastest growing parishes in Louisiana, and it ranks 9th among U. S. counties nation wide. Its number of registered and elected Republicans is growing as well. Party membership, which was less than 9,000 in the year 2000, today stands at more than 21,525 (or 31.2%), and there are now twenty-one elected Republican officials representing constituents within the parish.

The Ascension Republican Women welcome all interested citizens to join us at our monthly Ascension GOP Roundtable meetings. It is our goal to keep the electorate informed of current events and issues of interest to citizens of Ascension, Louisiana and the United States.

The ARW organization supports Conservative Republican candidates running for local, state and national offices. ARW is also very active in promoting Community Service projects such as the Dictionary Project (We provide dictionaries for every 3rd grader in 14 Ascension Parish schools.), the Brick Project (memorializing fallen Ascension soldiers at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Gonzales, LA) and the St. Theresa Food Bank. For the past two years, ARW has sponsored a Veterans Day Poster contest in the local high schools.

Our meetings are open to women and men alike who are interested in the community in which they live. Come join us!
