Ginny Martinez Scholarship

The Ginny Martinez Scholarship was created to honor Ginny Martinez for her many contributions to the successes of the Republican Party of Louisiana, the Louisiana Federation of Republican Women (LFRW), the Republican National Committee (RNC), and the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW). Ginny encouraged women to become and stay actively involved in politics. For many years she served as Louisiana’s Republican National Committeewoman. Ginny was an LFRW unit club president in addition to holding many other positions in the  LFRW. As a Regional Vice President, she founded at least two unit clubs. Ginny was an exceptional role model, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend until her death in 1992.

The purpose of the Ginny Martinez Scholarship is to encourage and aid female college students to reach their highest potential by providing financial assistance to aid them
in furthering their education. Students pursuing degrees in Government, Political Science, Pre-Law, Law and media related subjects will receive top priority in consideration.

The Ginny Martinez Scholarship funds can be used to help defray expenses such as housing, books, transportation, tuition or special assistance. LFRW’s Ginny Martinez Scholarship Committee’s guidelines for that covered under Special Assistance is as follows:

The amount of the scholarship will depend upon the applicants responding, their demonstrated financial needs, funds available, and the final vote of the Ginny Martinez Scholarship Committee (individual members’ votes being confidential even to members of the whole committee.)

The amount of each scholarship awarded shall not be less than $100 and not more than $1,000 and will be awarded biannually during the year of the state convention.

Being chosen as a recipient of a Ginny Martinez Scholarship does not render one ineligible to be a recipient at a later date. Applicants not chosen as recipients at a particular time are eligible to reapply. The Ginny Martinez Scholarship Committee will base selection as a recipient on information provided by the applicant and personal interviews. The applicant’s narrative statement of interest in the Ginny Martinez Scholarship and her plans for the future, as well as demonstrated financial need, will be of paramount interest in the selection process.
